Goodbye 2007

I have to say, like Damien I will be delighted to see the back of 2007. Lots of things have happened this year that will make me glad to move into next year.

We had great news in July only to see the rug pulled from under us in early August. My previous job sucked big time with a new management structure all based in the US and A deciding that people in Cork we surplus to their requirements. I do honestly believe that what they are doing with the Global Servicedesks will not work. This comment is something I have been saying before anything happened with my job. They have a very narrow-minded, shallow idea and it will not work. I do hope though that it backfires and seriously bites them in the ass. Then after agreeing to leave, I was lied to by the management and so I'm really glad to see the back of them.

Finally we have been living in Cobh for the last three years. I can honestly say that I have never, ever, had such a tough time trying to live anywhere. It is almost impossible to integrate into that community and so we had to leave and now live in Dublin. Luckily, with the current climate, we managed to sell our house and hope the new people enjoy the house but we just didn't have the luck.

So, goodbye 2007 and so looking forward to 2008.

Merry Christmas

To the very few who read this blog, I hope you have a very Merry and peaceful Christmas and that 2008 brings everything you wish for.

I wonder...

Regular Irish Bloggers (and many, many others) know Damien and Damien's previous life in Ireland Offline. When I worked with Damien I often asked and sought advise on telecom's issues and how to best get a result. When I was talking to him about getting crap cold-calls he said there is a number you can call and tell them you don't want to receive cold calls any more from Eircom or anyone else.

Got me to thinking....

Is there a number to call to stop Jehovah's Witnesses or Born Again Christian's calling to my house? If they call and I tell them to stop and not come back does this suffice? Is there a list to get added to.

For the record, I'm not religious and don't want salvation.

Thanks.

Harney must go...NOW !!!!

Another case of pure negligence in our, ahem, wonderful health system. This poor women and I wonder how many more are like her. How many men in the same situation with regards to getting testing.

When is Mary Harney going to go and leave us in peace? When can we get a health system akin to our so-called world status? When, when, when are we going to stop asking these questions and get answers. WHEN ???

All I want for Xmas is.....

A scorpion, a snake and other miscellaneous animals...fancy anything on the list??

Twas the night before Xmas - Competition time

OK. Here is the challenge. On Twenty's blog he has his entry for "The Night Before Xmas" competition (even though he wasn't aware he was entering).

The challenge is to write your own version. Then link to this post from your blog with your entry (or leave as a comment), and then I will list them all on a post next Wed. Deadline for entries is Tuesday December 18th. People can then vote for their favourite and the winner gets a special prize (which I haven't decided yet but twill be nice, honest).

Now to go home and write my own version......

Harney - Please go!

I was listening to The Last Word the other day and they had a very sad story about a fella from Cork whose wife passed away. She was a young woman (early forties I think).

He took her into hospital, she was checked again, again and again and to no avail. Over the next few weeks more doctor and hospital visits but nothing was working. She couldn't eat and lost lots of weight. Eventually she was checked into hospital, spent the guts of 12 hours in a corridor waiting for a bed. That night he got a call to say she was very sick, he rushed in and she passed away. It turned out what killed her hadn't been diagnosed properly.

He tried to find the accountable person in the HSE and no-one would talk to him and even denied they were accountable. He sued the HSE and they admitted guilt and agreed a settlement. He still can't find the person(s) accountable and all they will say is "The HSE is responsible and accountable". Head's must roll. Harney's head must roll.

I really hope that she disappears very, very quickly never to reappear. Even if it means we have to give her a payment of €500, 000 it would be worth it to get rid of her. Useless, ugly, ignorant sow that she is. From what I can see, our health system is worse than when she started.

And do you know what makes this man's story even worse (if thats possible)? He is an ambulance driver at the hospital where his wife died and they couldn't even help him a bit. And his own management wouldn't meet and talk to him.

I think this story is indicitive of the sad, depressing, ignorant society that we now find ourselves. Very sad indeed.

Is this the end of the Rafalution?

I don't often talk about football on this blog, but this time I feel the need to get something off my chest.

The way things are going, I will surprised if Rafa Benitez will be Liverpool manager come end of June 2008.

Over the last 3 and a 1/2 years, Rafa and his teams have really brought us, the fans, many highs and some lows. We have had a Champions League win and another final. Our highest points total in 20 years and it took a monumental effort from Chelsea and Man Utd to stop us being in the top three. We have won the FA Cup, the European Super Cup, a Charity Shield and been in the League Cup final. All in 3 seasons. And yet the man is subjected to the most ridiculous criticism.

Yes, for the last 6 or 7 matches in the Premiership we have not played great but we are unbeaten. We are 6 points behind Arsenal after the same amount of games and we are 3 behind Man Utd with a game in hand. Yet these teams have no criticism.

I really fear for the situation. The press in England, the bastards that they are, have made it an almost daily report to lambast Benitez. Here we have a manager who in the last 4 seasons has been in 2 Champions League finals and won the UEFA Cup - a better record than Ferguson, Mourinho and Wenger have! Ferguson has been in 1 final in his entire 20-odd years at Man Utd. And yet what is written and said about him is unbelievable. This crap they write about the rotation system is utter rubbish and the man's record is unreal. You dont win 2 Spanish League titles without being an excellent manager. The press don't like Benitez as he doesnt conform to the English ideologies of football in that it should be played at 100 miles per hour and you play 4-4-2 with the same 11 each week. Crap.Utter crap. The man is a brilliant manager and what he has brought to England is as good as, if not better than, Mourinho.

According to the papers this morning Rafa will be sacked soon for clashing with the owners and Mourinho will be installed as boss. I really hope this doesnt happen. The owners at Liverpool need to get their heads out of their arse and see what he is saying. If we dont tie done Mascherano and get some others in soon then their return on investment will be even less. If they appoint Mourinho they may as well appoint Alex Ferguson as assistant as their loathing amoung Liverpool fans is about the same and loads will vote with their feet.

There are players at Liverpool who are also there due to Rafa and it is going to cost lots to replace them - and they will have to replace them. Reina will leave, Alonso will leave, Agger will leave. We may see Torres going and other too. I think we are just starting to see the best of Rafa's Liverpool team now. The players now know how we wants and some of the young lads are looking great. Lucas looks some player and Babbel is gonna be great - players who joined the team for the manager and not because of who owns the team.

I really hope that I am wrong and Rafa is Liverpool boss for many years, but this is another item of something that is rapidly decreasing my interest in football.

What are the parents responsible for then?

While coming from the city centre earlier this evening, we had four young 'uns on the dart chatting about what they got up to last night. They were all around the 15 / 16 year age group. Last night they all smoked hash and a few of them had poppers on the way out. One of them was telling most of the people in the carriage (as he was talking loud enough) that Marissa wanted to give him 'head' and do him.

Another talked about rolling a few splifs today and sharing them with the others in the group and then was saying he spends about €25 each week on hash. Yup, €25.

When we were walking out of the station in Raheny (they were all off their heads) one of them spat in my wife's hair and another poked her in the back with an umbrella. Luckily for them Nicole didn't tell me about this until they had gone another direction and we were away from them.

If I had seen one of them doing that they, male or female, would have been pinned against a wall and shown in no uncertain terms not to even breath in our direction again. They really wouldn't want to get my temper going and little bastards like that get my blood boiling. And this is where we are really, really, killing our society. I would have been done for assault, probably, (and if one is going to be done for assault you better make it worthwhile) on that little fucker. What they done and the fact they were on, taking, and buying drugs (oh, and they were all drinking last night as well) would be irrelevant. People now-a-days have no manners especially children and teens. They get away with murder and parents do nothing to assist. They see it as the schools responsibility to not only educate, but instil discipline in THEIR kids. None of this education takes place at home and it should.

The problem is that schools cannot properly discipline kids as their discipling functions are removed. When I was at school the teachers used rulers to hit us on our hands. In my 8 years in primary school I'd say I got hit 3 times which is not a bad ratio. The fear of getting hit was sometimes more scary than the actual event. You knew if you got the ruler you did something to deserve it - and we did. It put a sense of discipline in us but also my parents put a lot of effort into manners and how to respect others (no smart comments). Now parents give their kids money and throw them on the streets (note how many hang around shops and mickey d's at all hours day and nights). And if a teacher so much as looks sideways at their child the trouble the teacher will be in is inconceivable. And this is wrong.

We will implode very soon as a society. Lots of the kids we are producing are rude, obnoxious, cheeky, place no value on anything and have no respect for any else. They don't know how to properly interact with people and because they are given money for nothing, they have no idea about work and have little or no work ethic - mummy and daddy will give me money.

When you listen to these radio talk-shows you hear people saying we need ASBO's, or better Policing, or more CCTV cameras, or teachers. No one mentions the parents responsibility in this
and surely as the people who have brought this person into this world, they are the people who should take most responsibility to improve what is happening.

More Striking - Getting Boring!

So, they are all at it now. Aer Lingus staff are going on strike as well. Jee wizz. I do wonder how these people would cope if they worked for a private company where your job is important. I mean, look at what happened in Shannon with the Aer Lingus route. Maybe call their bluff and let other airlines take the routes that they are so happy to let go idle.

I was also reading a very interesting letter in the Metro. A girl in Dublin was saying that she bought a ticket for Dublin bus in advance. Because of the strike now, every bus that goes past her place is full and so she has to taxi it. Should she get her money back? I feckin think so...and take it out of the unions or Dublin bus workers coffers.

Feckers the lot of them....they may make my list yet !

Unions - Do we really need them?

This whole bus dispute in Dublin I have to say is really annoying me. I think it is completely uncalled for and is yet again a sign of how many Irish hide behind unions when they can't be arsed working. Yes, I said can't be arsed.

Personally, I think Dublin bus are well within their rights to ask the drivers change in the city centre. If there was no precedent then fair enough but I have been on enough buses in Dublin and seen drivers change in the city centre - so what is so special about those from Harristown?

In order to succeed in any business you must be prepared to experience some level of discomfort at some stage in your company. Its life, get on with it. It happens us all. Unfortunately in Ireland when any company who has a union behind them tries to change something, some idiot decides to call a strike because it might cause them a little discomfort. Of course when they decide to do this its never them nor the union who suffer its ALWAYS the consumer. 60,000 people they reckon are affected in Dublin the last few days.

I wait for the day for another unofficial strike. When these happen I always hope that the idiot who called the strike gets sacked if its found it shouldnt be called. Why should the consumers always suffer yet this idiot keeps their job. So come on union folk do what you are really there for and protect people. If its unofficial and is deemed unwarranted I ask you to make an example of the person who called the strike. It might stop others.

Unions are a great idea. I'm not against them. What I am against are the people running them. These people seem to have a huge chip on their shoulder and just want to show every now and again that they have some power, and do everything they can to annoy as many people as they can. They never see the bigger picture.

The new bus routes are needed in Dublin. They need to be introduced. Dublin Bus have gone through the correct channels to get it ratified. They have deferred these new routes twice but these are needed now. What can't unions move with the times? The fella that was suspended for refusing to work the new routes was rightly suspended. If my company went through the right channels and had to make a change for the right reasons and I refused I'd be given two options - leave or be pushed. That's it. And if this strike ends with these drivers getting more money for the new routes that will be disgusting.

Tickets went..

The tickets on offer for the match last night between France and New Zealand went for face value.

And i'd say it was some game to be at as it was very exciting to watch.

Irish Rail Watch

For my 200th post I thought that I would post about something that is close to my heart....how much Irish Rail suck.

On Wednesday last, I travelled to Dublin by train for the first time in about 4 years. And they didn't disappoint. For all the published items on the amount of trains that depart and arrive on time I took three trains and all were late.

Train 1, Cork-Dublin: Due to depart on Wednesday morning at 10.30am - left at 10.33am (you may think this is pedantic but it is still late)

Train 2, Dublin-Cork: Due to depart on Friday afternoon at 12pm - left at 12.22pm. The tannoy system in Heuston station is poor and it was not only hard to understand the accent on the man speaking, but also what he was saying.

Train 3, Cork-Cobh: Due to depart on Friday afternoon at 3pm - left at 3.17pm. The funny thing about this, is that at 3.02pm they announced that this train was running late (really???) by about 15mins. A bit shoddy.

So, I am getting the train again this afternoon and will see what happens now.

Anyone want tickets to the rugby quarter final?

So, I have a friend with 4 tickets to the World Cup quarter final in Cardiff.

Does anyone want to buy them? If so, then leave a comment.

I dont think I will comment on the fiasco that was our performances as better writers than me have already done that.

Coming Soon

Everyone else blogged about this when he released the cover so I thought I'd be different and only mention it now. Twenty's book is nearly there.

One can hope that it makes it big, is put into a movie and grosses more than Harry flucking Potter. Feck it I cant stand those mind controlling movies and books.

One then one can hope that with his newly found fortune Twenty decends into a life of living it up, sleeping with numerous supermodels and other such fit birds and blows his entire fortune in a very short space of time and is back blogging then.

Maybe he could just live of his name afterwards like Chesney Hawkes.

More Politics Stuff

As you may or may not know, Damien owns a few websites (when will the madness stop). One of these is www.politicsinireland.com. This has been newed up a bit, jazzed a little more, and is now ready for re-launch is grand Windows 95 style.

Go an have a look or we will set Gerry on you.

Must See Movie - Mischief Night

If you liked 'East is East' or kinda liked 'The Full Monty' then you must get out another English movie called 'Mischief Night'.

This is a really funny and well made movie set in Leeds in northeast Eng-er-land. The basic idea of the movie is that each year in Leeds they celebrate a night, sort of like Halloween, called Mischief Night. On this night anything can happen. The story centres around a women with three children each by different men. Mischief Night is on the Friday night but the movie starts the previous Monday and builds up to the Friday.

Its really funny but be prepared for some crass language and some drug-related scenes and it is defo an 18 rated movie.

Go get it out...

House Husbandry

You know, as much as it pains me to say this but I have really enjoyed having the last four weeks of work. Sure the house has to be clean and the dinner made for the good wife when she gets home, but its great hanging around the house.

Its also mighty for pretending to be cleaning the house when really on the interweb and watching Liverpool DVD's.

In all seriousness, I can see why parents that stay at home with kids do have a full time job. I don't have any kids but each evening you wonder where the feck the day has gone. You ask yourself: what have I done? Where did the day go? Did I achieve anything? In most cases you don't think that certain things take the amount of time they do or maybe in this day and age we all just want things done now and the quicker the better.

So I raise my hat and tip my glass to all those housewifes and househusbands and say fair play to ye.

Now, Im off to surf the web and then twill be dinner time.

Contacting Moi...

Everyone else seems to be doing this so why not I, I thought to myself.

I am at the moment looking for gainful employment. For possible employers my CV can be found on Monster.ie and also on RecruitIreland.com.

ShiteDrivers.com

Following the launch of ShiteDrivers.com not so long ago, some great publicity has been forthcoming over the last few days.

Yesterday, an article appeared in the Sunday Tribune, coutesy of Miss Una Mullally, about the website with comments from the Road Safety Authority's Noel Brett.

Also this morning Niall was on the Ray D'Arcy show on Today FM, with Marty Whelan on 2FM and also on Tipp FM and NewsTalk.

While there are some who will rubbish this site (one person on Ray's show thought that it was a forum for people to record their bad driving and become famous through the site for it - nope, that is what YouTube is for) I think its a great idea.

I always feel that we, the Irish, are shocking at issues like this. When something happens we never feel we can make a difference and wait for someone else. When someone does decide to do something all we do is give out about them and say that they are never happy.

So I say, feck ye bugrudgers and embrace this site. It it makes even 2 people a week think more about their driving habits then its better than none.

Five Albums

Ok, before I start I am not on about the band 5 (Get up, when your down) but this band may well come into your reckoning if you so wish. What I am on about here, is just something based of a conversation I had a few years ago with my sister. We were in HMV or Virgin or somewhere and we were on about certain albums that should be in a persons music collection. You know, there are some albums that most people have and if they don't, they should.

I was thinking about this again yesterday as I was also thinking about which 5 movies should be in a persons collection. So without further ado here doth be mine choices (in no particular order):

Music
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
2. Nirvana - Nevermind
3. Guns 'N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
4. Radiohead - The Bends
5. Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Movies
1. Braveheart
2. Monty Python and The Holy Grail
3. Blade
4. Star Wars (4, 5 and 6 - otherwise known as the first three movies - and yes this may be cheating but I dont care. These should be together)
5. Shrek

To be honest, I don't pretend to be either a movie or music buff (don't really watch many movies or listen to much music) but these are my choices. And as I never really had much of an interest in music prior to 1987 thats why there is nothing older there.

There are other albums that I think most people have like Fatboy Slim (We've come a long way baby), Moby (Play) and others, but I'm not sure if they are really that influential but were rather just really popular at the time.

So..what would your choices be??

Update Time

I know its been a while since my last update on this Blog. There have been 2 main reasons for this:

1) I have been trying to find a job
2) I have been thinking about this blog.

The first item is a slow moving one with little happening at the moment. To be honest, I am enjoying my time off as it is the first proper break I have had in over 5 years. When I finished work on the Friday, the Saturday morning was the first time in over 5 years that I woke up and didnt have 2 phones beside my bed. Do I miss my work phone? Not on your nelly. Nice having peace for a short while.

For the second item, I think I need to cut back on my, lets say, colourful language. And that means the "F" list has to go...not completely though, just renamed. So Ter, you might make the "Annoyed Me List" (just doesnt have the same ring to it).

Other than that, not much happening in these neck of the woods.

Feel free to leave a comment to spice up me life.

Toilet Humour

I saw on Una's blog that she she has launched a new blog based on images and writings in toilets and tis called 'JacksGraff'. I think this is fab but it will reduce the ratings people give toilets on 'Rate This Toilet'.

Still, make sure to use both of these!

It reminds me of a story I read in Chris Donald's autobiog. Chris is the fella who founded Viz comic. Before he left Viz, the most amazing TV show ever "Through the Keyhole" had Chris on it as it had run out of A-W celebs. When Lloyd Grossman was going through the house he went to bathroom and in his usual drawl said something like "..and heeeerre is where aur guest may get moost of his ideas".

Class. Cue much laughter.

Anyways, go to Una's new blog.

Leaving

On Friday last, Aug 27th, I left Schlumberger Cork as an employee for the last time. I think that leaving anywhere, regardless of the circumstances, can be a very difficult thing to do. I had 5 years and 5 months with SLB and that is not easily brushed under the carpet.

Yes there were bad times but there were also good times and I learned a lot from the 7 managers I had there and also from the project mangers and teamleaders that I worked with. I worked on projects and issues with SLB staff from all levels of the company and to get that type of exposure I thank them.

I also think you couldnt work in a better facility than we had. The location is just outside Cork city, free parking (even if they do insist on reverse parking), free on-site gym, subsidised canteen with top notch food, good social club, free Xmas party and summer BBQ. I think that you can get too spoiled.

And so another era in my life ends. I seem to stay in places for a while as I had almost 4 years in IBM before going to Oz and now nearly 5-and-a-half years in SLB.

What next?

Padraig Harrington - Open Champion

Well done to Padraig Harrington who won the Open at Carnoustie yesterday.

He beat Sergio Garcia to win the tournament and become the first European to win a major in eight years and the first Irish winner of the Open since Fred Daly 60 years ago.

I like Padraig I have to say. He is always polite and humble, speaks well of others and win's and lose's in a very gracious fashion.

Well done fella...ya made the country proud.

Also a small word for young Irish golfer Rory McIlroy for Hollywood Co. Down who won the best amateur award at the open.

The future of Irish golf looks good...

Monkeygland and Braai stuff

Our next door neighbours, a South African couple, have opened their own business recently called "A Taste Of Africa".

Folks....if you are having a bbq (called 'braai' over there) then you must, you have to, its written in scripture, that you get some MonkeyGland sauce and marinade your steak in this. It is unreal. Leave for about 2 hours and it will leave your steak so tender after cooking..even if you want it well done! And the taste? I'm drooling just thinking about it.

Go and check out their online shop and their products. We have tried the marinade's for chicken (Lemon and Herb and Honey & Mustard), the Peach Chutney is amazing and you have to try the meat. The Wild Boar sausage is great on the barby as well.

Go and get some stuff. Its all good.

Dirty fuckers..

I heard about VHI on the radio and couldn't believe it and then I see it on Damien's blog so it must be true.

Dirty robbin feckers.

I mean, if its not enough for them to make all the Vivas and Bupa/Quinn people pay for another crap service they now want their own customers to pay more. I can imagine the letter:

"Dear Mr/Mrs Fucked-Over,

In honour of you being such a devoted customer of ours over the last few years, we want to reward you by charging more for the same service.

We are sure that you will agree that giving us extra wages is much more important than lowering the cost for you as we have houses, boats and large cars to keep (not forgetting keeping up with the Jones's at number 47 - 4 holidays they had last year the bastards).

Anywho, you can send a donation cheque also to show your gratitude.

Love,
your €500k per year manager"

Lovely.

Know any shite drivers?

Following on from Niall's blog posts here and here and my own here, Niall has set up a lovely new site called ShiteDrivers.com.

More information about it.

Please feel free to log comments on Niall's blog post or indeed on this one with ideas or suggestions. Really, the state of some of the driving on Irish roads these days leaves a lot to be desired and something needs to be done to address this.

For myself, here are a few suggestions that I think the NRA (National Roads Authority) need to address ASAP

1) Awareness Campaigns.
We need awareness campaigns urgently on how to deal with roads and situations. We have a huge amount of people who have never encountered or had to deal with motorways, dual carriageways or slow/fast lanes and suddenly these are introduced with no training or details. We need TV ads, newspaper ads and flyers detailing these so that at least people might get the idea. To me a 50 year old is as dangerous on a motorway if they have never been on one before as much as a learner of 2 years in the same situation.

2) Driver Training.
The driver training program needs urgent revamp. It needs to include more items like how to deal with cyclists and motorbikes. It needs to include 'zipping' and general road courtesy. None of these things are on the test. Fast roads, decent size roundabouts, traffic...loads of things need to be done during the test and we need to ensure that the people we are letting drive on the roads can indeed drive. There is no point in testing someone in a 50km zone and in housing estates and then letting them off on motorways. They need to be tested on motorways or national roads on which they will regularly drive.

3) More Cameras
I think we need more cameras but not just for speed. People regularly do not use roundabouts correctly and often go into the wrong lane. If we had some cameras on roundabouts and people were fined for not using indicators or using the wrong lane then it might stop people. We need cameras also on motorways and dual carriageways to check people's driving. Speed is indeed an issue but stupidity is as big an issue in my mind. We should also have cameras on roads that have had a high number of fatalities so we could see what is happening. Maybe, with the families consent, they could be shown to learner drivers, and others, to see what happens when you go that bit to fast on a bad road or what happens driving - even at/under the speed limit - on wet/slippy roads.

4) Pedestrian Awareness
People nowadays have no fear of cars. People regularly walk on the incorrect side of the road or cross the road, taking their time, and cause cars to stop. Pedestrians need to be more aware of themselves and treat the road with more respect. I myself had a good grounding in respect for the road from both my parents and teachers and I wonder what is happening now?

5) Cycle lanes and Paths
We need more...much, much more. The proposal for the €30bm is great but I would love to read the whole thing. Its fantastic that cycle paths are to be introduced for tourists but have the ordinary Irish folk been thought off? No. I tried to cycle from Cobh to Little Island but had to stop. The road is constantly being dug up and is crap and car/lorry drivers give you no space or respect. I would class myself as an experienced cyclist so I don't see how kids/families can cycle on that road. We need the whole thing to be assessed and cycle paths but in where we the Irish need them.

We also need more pedestrian paths. It really should be part of the infrastructure plan when housing estates are being created to have proper access in and around and not have to stop at the entrance. More and more housing estates are being built and its great walking around them but when you leave them you are often on a main road or a narrow road (like near our house) with lots of traffic.

6) Statistics
More statistics need to be shown in the media. We need to know the breakdown of what caused the accident. To often speed is assumed when it may have been something else. It could have been a bad road, wet conditions, very inexperienced driver anything. Drink is a concern and so is speed but so is poor driving, ignorant pedestrians and stupidity. Lets see the causes and do something about them rather than assuming everything is drink/speed related.

I'm sure there are other items but even if these could be addressed soon the roads would be a better - and safer - place.

The "Now" culture

This is something that has been seriously pissing me off for some time. Its the "now" culture that we possess and are completely and totally to blame for. Regardless of age, sex, religion, colour, postcode or country there are shitloads of fuckers who want everything NOW !

No waiting, no asking nicely, no realising that sometimes quality takes time.

Take this story for instance.

Lovely lady (LL) running a coffee shop. In the window it states (only related day chosen),

"Opening hours:
Tuesday - 9am - 6pm"

Two fat, oldish American ladies (AL) walk in at 8.50, tables and chairs still to be moved outside and machines in the process of being switched on made ready.

AL: "Can we get two latte's to go?"
LL: "I'm sorry, we open at 9am and I need to get all these tables and chairs outside before then. If you wait until I move these I can get you your coffee's?"
AL: "Thats no good to us. We have a train to catch"

And with that, out the door they went. And good fuckin riddance. See, what part of 'Opening @ 9am' did you not get? Can't you read? Don't you understand that businesses need to get ready? Probably not. Your part of the 'now' culture. No more waiting, no more queues, no more take your time.

I could rant for ages about this 'now' culture but it just makes me angry and I was in a good mood all day after hearing Groove Armada's "I see you baby" song. In fact..here it is:

I like I will rant about this at any stage.

Dinosaur Attacks..

This is fantastic...

Get on eBay Now!!!

This is a fantastic story from the Beeb. A young lad in Norfolk, England, got more than he bargained for.

He bought a Playstation on eBay but instead of getting the 2 games he ended up with €65,400 in cash.

If you want me I will be buying game consoles....

Fav Songs

Following on from the songs I posted yesterday, I thought I would share some of my favourite songs and if I can be bothered I will say why. These are not in any particular order but rather just when I think of them.

First up, Red Hot Chili Peppers and 'Give It Away'. This is top of my list.....it just is. The music, the lyrics, the fucked-up-ness of it all. The video, the band. I think, while their music has matured over the years, they are losing something. For me, what the RCHP are about is all in this song.

Enjoy...

Fluffy Things

Niall listing more stupidity on the roads in Dundalk. Unfortunately this is commonplace all over Ireland.

My 'Rate This Toilet' blog, recently on the Rick O'Shea show on 2FM has moved from Blogspot to Wordpress. Go and have a look and get listing...

Damien giving out again. That's sooooo not like him! But this is a good cause.

Finally, a few vids from a top band and from one of my favourite albums of all time...Rage Against The Machine from Rage Against The Machine.

People who are fuckers No.8 - Driver of 06 C 5474

You are some stupid bitch. Do you not know the rules of the road? For fucks sake.

Here, especially for you, are the rules of how to navigate roundabouts.

As there is only one exit lane from the roundabout entering Eastgate you cannot and should not be in the right hand lane you fuckin bitch. READ THE RULES. And then just cutting right in front of me, with no use of indicators and then having the nerve to try and blame me!!

For fuck sakes.

I have a good mind to print out the roundabout rules and go to your place of work and give them to you in Eastgate Business Park on the same road as O'Briens.

People who are fuckers...Ter Lynch?

Ter Lynch, from LinkMap fame, wants to be added to the "Fuckers List".

However, I do not have enough reason to add Ter to same.

If you have reasons for Ter to be added to a Fuckers list comment here and if I get enough suggestions then Ter will be added. The juicier the story, the more likely he will be added.

Let the games begin!

A 'Hell' of a surname

This is a fantastic story from the Examiner today.

A Catholic school in Australia refused to admit a new pupil because of his surname which is....wait for it....Hell!!

Vanilla Ice...Jim Carrey style

Class..

Driving hints.

From driving into work and from Niall's blog post, here are some top tips for those dipshits on the road.

1) On a dual carriageway (in Ireland), the right-hand lane is called an "overtaking" lane. You should only enter this lane for a) turning right at the next junction (which should be close and not 3 or 4 fuckin miles away, b) you are overtaking. If you must overtake, indicate, move out, overtake and move back in. Do not move out and sit beside the car you are overtaking. Do not just sit in this lane because you are too fuckin thick to move into the left-hand lane.

2) Indicate BEFORE turning - indicators are not to help you turn but rather to advise other drivers of your intention, Indicate early enough to warn the poor fucks behind you.

3) If you have to slow down, use your brake. Don't just lift your foot of the accelerator. The brake lights at the rear of the car are to warn the drivers behind of what you are doing. Also, there is not need to brake on every corner or when a car is passing you on the opposite side of the road.

4) Using your mobile phone in Ireland while driving is illegal. Why the fuck do so many thick fuckers still do it? It causes problems. I saw a guy suddenly brake quite hard, then pick up and answer his mobile. No hands free for him. Cunt.

5) Use your mirrors. They are there to be used and not for checking makeup or for aesthetic purposes. Be aware of who and what is behind and around you.

6) Bicycle's and pedestrians have as much right on the roads as you. Give them space.

7) If you want to drive at 30kmph then do it in a 30kph zone. Not in a 60kmph zone. If you want to drive a fair bit under the speed limit then have the common courtesy to move in and let the vehicles who want to drive close to the speed limit pass. You do not have sole rights on any road.

Roll on the expected abuse...

Things about me that you wouldn’t think were true, but are

From the following blogs (yes, yes...I know I'm way behind them but what the fuck) Damien, UnaRocks, Handelaar and Niall OK's, here are 4 things that you wouldn't think were true but are (and Una is right..this is difficult).

1. I know I will die horribly. Don't know how, don't know when, but I will. I will not die in my bed/chair/sofa peacefully. It will be horrible.

2. Despite always scoring "Extraverted" in personality tests and despite what people think, I am quite shy and introverted. Honestly!

3. I hate crowds. Full stop. Cant handle them. I panic if people get in the way of me getting to where I want to go, at my speed and in my direction. I will take side streets and dark alleys and more time, if necessary, to avoid crowds.

4. I'm not really into IT and don't really care for the latest gadgets.

Drug Bust!

I was listening to the Ian Dempsey breakfast show this morning and someone texted in to say they saw Pete Doherty on a beach in West Cork.

On the 8 o'clock news it said the Garda were further investigating the €200m of drugs seized in West Cork.

Draw your own conclusions....

Underground Dart

So, the powers that be have decided that the answer to Dublin's transport issues are to build an underground Dart (read here). It seems to be like this is, again, a really, really, really fucked up and stupid idea.

Why didn't they think, a few years ago before the Luas, of maybe just making an underground system in Dublin and forget about the Luas. This, to me, would have made more sense. If they can do something now then why not before.

However the one thing that they have finally thought about is that it will link up with the Luas and existing Dart lines.

I bet ya that feck all will use it though as you will have to pay through the nose to get on them. The government need to realise that by dropping prices on public transport, introducing more carraiges and times, then more people will use it.

Personally, I dont think this will happen.

I wonder what they are going to do for the rest of the country though??

Praise be there is some sense in the world.

Saw this over on UnaRocks and all I can say is thank fuck there is some sense in the world sometimes. MSNBC presenter Mika Brzezinski I salute you for this (as well as for being quite fit)..

Why the fuck does that cuntin geebag Paris Hilton get so much coverage? If she is a role model for the youth of today we are all abso-fuckin-lutely fucked.

If she ever gets any sort of foothold in anything worthwhile I will ask Twenty for some assistance in my demise.

I think she might make my fucker's list...

Happy Birthday and well done....although I do feel a tad old being older than said mag.

Chris Benoit & Family Dead

Just read today that WWE pro-wrestler Chris Benoit choked his wife to death and then smothered his 7-year-old son on Monday last, June 25th, before hanging himself with a cord from a weights machine.

He left a copy of the bible beside each of their bodies which bodes the following question:

Did you plan this in advance and so buy these bibles or were there really at least three bibles in his house?

Authorities say use of steriods may have contributed to this but WWE are saying that he passed a random test in April.

I'll remind the deputy..

I thought the "verbal spat", as they are calling it, in the Dail yesterday between John 'The Gunner' O'Donoguue and Michael Ring was fantastic.
I am just waiting for gunner's "I'll remind the deputy" words to be put into a techno tune.
I read today that deputy Ring will not withdraw his statements and really why should he? If that is what he thinks is he not entitled to freedom of speech and opinion? Or are the Failers, sorry, Fianna Fail members going to gag the country now?

Ireland's 2008 Eurovision Entry

Following on from my previous post on this and the incessant barracking from Gerry, here is a song which I'm convinced would take Ireland back to the top of the Eurovision. Except that the tune is robbed..damn, blasted rules.

Let this warm yer cockles...

To the tune of "Your Beautiful" by James Blunt

Song Title: She wants a yacht (in Spain)

My wifes a prossie
My wifes a whore
She sells her body
Thats for sure

She smiled at him on the subway
It was another man
She went with him, to get his cash
'Cause shes got a plan

She wants a yacht
She wants a yacht
She wants a yacht in Spain
I cant afford it, on my salary
And she knows just want to do
To get that yacht for two

She caught another eye
As she walked on by
It was plan by her face that the price
Would be high
But I hope, she wont see him again
As they shared a moment and she got crabs again

She wants a yacht
She wants a yacht
She wants a yacht in Spain
I cant afford it on my salary
And she knows just want to do
To get that yacht for two

She wants a yacht
She wants a yacht
She wants a yacht in Spain
There must be another way, to get her yacht
As Im so sick of her sleaze
And all those sexual disease

Work

Imagine you are in a job in a company whose future is uncertain. This type of situation carries on for a few years and eventually gets sorted. Things start to calm down. People start to relax more and a good atmosphere starts to be generated. You do not dread going to work as you once did and in fact, even with lots of work to do, you still don't mind it.

Then something changes and everything gets fucked up.

That change occurred in November.

Fuck it.

Eircom - Can they do anything right?

I have been checking on the Eircom website for weeks now to see if my phone line is suitable for broadband yet.

The answer No. This is following on from more shite from Eircom that I talked about before.

I decided, due to boredom, to check the Eircom website to see about the enabled exchanges. Lo and behold it doesn't show Rushbrooke (my exchange) as being enabled.

So, lets look at this.

1) I had a rep selling a phone package which included broadband and stating that the exchange was enabled and that they had checked my phoneline and it was suitable for broadband.
2) My phoneline is not suitable for broadband as per the Eircom website (last checked today as I write this post)
3) The exchange is not enabled (as checked today as I write this post)

Now, Im not really of a legal mind but surely this must be illegal? Selling packages that customers cannot use? Maybe Damien can advise???

Are you a minger?

I hope for your sake that you haven't made it into the Mingers.com website.

Or, maybe you are happy that you did and maybe even sent in your own photo. Whatever makes you happy.

Fourteen things..

Here are fourteen things to think about.

Fourteen Things That It Took Me Over 50 Years To Learn—by Dave Barry

1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."

3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

5. You should not confuse your career with your life.

6. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

7. Never lick a steak knife.

8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.

9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.

12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers.

13. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)

14. Your friends love you anyway.

$1,000,000 if you help me..

Have you ever received an email stating it will give you a small fortune for allowing, as in Fr.Ted terms, money to "rest" in your bank account?

Ever been asked to assist with the transfer of money from one account, through yours, to charities for which you will be paid?

I think we have all received these at one stage or another and these are all scam emails. Here is a great website showing how you can take up the time of these scammers, or scambait as it is called.

It might just be my new hobby....

Click here to read one of these stories..its great and will take time to get through.

Golden Eagle..Dinosaur's Next??

News this morning on the RTE website that for the first time since 1910 a baby golden eagle has survived.

The chick hatched in Glenveagh National Park in Donegal.

Will be interesting to see if they can re-establish these and who knows what next?

P.S. Glenveagh is a fantastic place and the scenary is amazing. Absolutely worth a visit if you are ever up that way. Park yourself in Letterkenny and head to Glenveagh early to take it all in. Then have a night out in Letterkenny which is fantastic.

People who are fuckers No.7 - Filippo Inzaghi

Its been a while since I added a fucker to my list but this guy really is one in my book.
Filippo Inzaghi.

I really do hate this fucker and always have. It's not just because he scored the two goals that gave Milan the Champions League against us, but rather I just hate players like him.

A little touch and he dives. He constantly moans and whinges at refs. He celebrates every goal like it's the last thing he will ever do and the way he waves his hands and roads at the goals makes me just want to shove a spear or something down his throat to shut him up.

I dont know of any fans who actually like him and I think he is vastly overrated.

A real fucker in my book.

Election '07 Update 29 May

So, the Election is all over and everyone seems happy.

Twenty is over the moon at the result.

Damien is also delighted with the result.

And me? Well, to be honest I didnt vote. See I am registered to vote at home in Donegal and have never, ever changed it. And as it was on a Thursday I couldnt get home for it and wouldnt have anyways seeing as it was the day after the Champions League Final.

I looked at the election as follows:

- Is there any of the other fuckers that I would trust (maybe that's too strong a word) more than what is in office at present??

The answer was no. Not at all. They are all a self serving shower of fuckers who really dont give an arse about Joe Bloggs. So I decided not to vote. I personally dont think any of them would make this place any better than what we have.

And I suppose my final point is that if I had changed my vote to Cork I wouldnt have voted anyways. Not one of the fuckers came to my house to try and get me to vote for them. Not one. None had a decent local agenda which is important in my eyes.

Sure, tis all over for another year. Roll on Election '08 !

Election '07 Update 21 May - Fine Gael.

There was another flyer through the door at the weekend this one from Fine Gael. This one is from David Stanton.

I have to say I am very disappointed in it. It covers nothing local at all and is basically the general stuff that they are spouting off about in the press and through all other media's. At least the Labour and Sinn Fein one's talk about local issues.

The one thing of interest on it was:
"Your money spent well, by sacking incompetent ministers".

Do they really expect us to believe that they will deem one of their own incompetent and fire them? Really? I think they are talking through their arse to be honest. Now, if they were to say that they will look at the Civil Service and sack people who are incompetent in there then that would be a different story.

Overall, it doesn't really inspire me at all and after the Enda and Bertie debate Fine Gael are going way down in my reckoning.

My questions if I get to ask them.

Election '07 Update 21 May - Fianna Fail

Another Fianna Fail flyer through the door at the weekend this one from Ned O'Keeffe.

Still no details on what they will do locally.

My questions if I get to ask them.

You'll be humming it for weeks

Who remembers this??

Friday, May 18, 2007

If Bertie and Enda were on the same team....

..they would still be fighting about who would be Justin Timberlake.

But alas they are not.
I watched the debate last night and for me, Bertie won hands down. The review on Irish Election shows how divided some people's opinions are. I watched a bit of the Cooper and Hobbs program with Pat Rabbitte and he came across better than Enda.
Overall we gotta really decide if there is a better option out there than what is presently in office and I cant see one (but then again I aint political enough to really follow the whole thing).
Most of these politicians remind me of wild life shows. Animals, showing their plumes or jaws or gills to impress or scare the others. There really isnt much choice.

The one thing I will say is that is Bertie is outted how will Gift Grub survive????

More Irish Rail stupidity

Last Saturday my wife and myself headed into town for a few beverages and some food.

Deciding that we would get the last train home (even after their shit previously) we headed to the train station.

I called my sister (who also experienced their shit) to check the last train time on the timetable she has (Timetable for 2007). It was 10.30pm.

We got to the station at 10.20pm to see on the new board (about fuckin time) that the train to Cobh was at 10.24pm from platform 4. We got our tickets and headed to platform 4. No train.

The train left Kent Station at 10.30pm from Platform 3. Really, what fuckin chance have we got of improving our transport system if we cant even get the times and platforms right of the current services? Probably what happened is that some fucker in a union couldn't change the details as they didn't have the necessary training and would have to be paid more to update it. Cunts.

Election '07 Update 16 May - Sinn Fein.

Following on from yesterday's post here are the items Sinn Fein are covering locally in Cobh.

Healthcare: Offering free healthcare to call citizens. That would be nice. Also an ambulance station located in Cobh.

Schools: Proper planning and funding for schools. Badly needed as our schools really need looking after.

Garda: Accountable and resources 24 hour presence in rural and urban areas. That would be great if we have enough cops AND they are distributed properly. And not corrupt.

Cork Harbour: Develop Cork harbour. Again, this is badly needed. Personally, Id love a water taxi from Cobh-City like they have in other cities. Or even an hourly ferry from Cobh into the City. All we would have to do is develop a few little marinas up the water with proper shelters. No cars on it mind. It could go the whole way into the docks.

Landslides: Funding and action to prevent landslides. I'd love to know where these take place and from my limited knowledge isn't this because we remove too many trees at once from an area. So, action: stop cutting trees in potential landslide areas. Problem solved.

Peace: Peace strategy to deliver on an Ireland of equals. Back to the old unite Ireland stuff (which I would like to see once we get rid of some folk)

A few nice things there to consider but overall (as with Labour) there is very little commitment in the document. It is more about what they would like to see rather than stating they WILL get it if they are elected.

It is better than Labour's but that aint saying much to be honest.

Put Paris Hilton in Jail

She was driving as follows:

  • No headlights on
  • With no license
  • At 70mph in a 35mph zone
  • And allegedly with no insurance
  • After having been told not to drive due to previous drink-driving offenses.

40,000 blowjobs...I'd vote

I see that Belgian politician Tania Derveaux has offered to give 40,000 blowjobs in return for a vote. Tania is a member of the NEE Party. Here is her statement:

"I am the leading NEE party senate candidate in Belgium. And due to popular demand, I will give 40,000 blowjobs to anyone who requests one on this page.

It started with our response to incredible claims that were made by other parties in Belgium, several parties promised new job opportunities in ridiculous amounts. We responded with a parody campaign for which I posed naked and promised our voters 400.000 new jobs.

This national campaign resulted in international media attention and I received hundreds of e-mails asking for 400,000 blowjobs. If this would get us even more media attention, I'm willing to give 40,000 blowjobs to make the statement.

According to my planning this would take me 500 days to tour around the world, visiting all the ones who signed up for a blowjob on this page, giving 80 blowjobs per day. So the offer is limited, sign up while you still can.

Click the button if you would like me to give you a blowjob.

Note: those who are married or shy can also choose to receive their blowjob in Second Life"

Now, are you going to tell me you wouldn't vote for her???

Election '07 Update 15 May - Sinn Fein.

Last night two lads called around campaigning for the local Sinn Fein candidate Sandra McLellan. Firstly, and this was a big thing for me, they reeked of cigarettes. If people were trying to portray me in a positive light I'm not sure I would want them in that manner.

That aside I thought that it might turn to their policies but instead as they started going on about percentages and the good chance she has to get in I told them I had no vote in Cork and that sent them on their way.

I forgot to take in the flyer to discuss her policies but I will update with it tomorrow.

My questions if I get to ask them.

Election '07 Update 12 May - Fianna Fail.

Flyer through the door on Saturday May 12th. No caller yet.

My questions if I get to ask them.

Election '07 Update 11 May - Labour.

Our local Labour candidate is Cllr. John Mulvihill with Cllr. Sean Sherlock also up for election.

On Friday last, May 11th I saw Mr. Mulvihill around our estate canvassing. When I arrived back at the house there were several people scurrying around the estate and I was handed a flyer asking for John to get my first vote. And that was it. No nothing else.

On Saturday another Labour flyer was thrown through the door but no one called to present themselves or to answer questions.

To be honest if that is what they will do then they may not get much votes.

I had a look at the flyer sent and they seem to think that saying "Cobh needs its on TD" will get them through. I really hope whoever gets in is in because they are the best (which isn't really likely unless my proposal is put through). Their manifesto (or whatever it is called) doesn't really inspire me.

Lots of ideas but there is no commitment anywhere on the document. Here is what is covered in it:

Tourism: Lobbying for the marina is good but maybe rather than lobby see what is holding it up? What's stopping it? Also if you want to have Cobh achieve its potential then remove pay-parking in the town and get the Chamber of Commence to work better with businesses. Too many are closing up recently.

Affordable Housing: I quote: "I propose that measures are put in place to assist young people". How? When? What you going to do? When you get in will you propose and if its shot down what then? "Oh I tried". You really need something stronger there.

Incinerator Threat: OK. No one really wants this and supporting the groups is fine. Will it be visible support or moral support?

Infrastructure: Proposing funding is made available is one thing but you really need to state that you will demand money to upgrade. And you need to be careful about this. Every time there is work being done on the roads they may a fuck up of them and they are usually bumpy after they finish. Also any upgrades will result in delays to traffic. Maybe get it done at night so minimum disruption to traffic?

Emergency Services: An ambulance is essential. In Germany, I think its law that an ambulance cannot be more than 15mins away from people. We are a smaller country and why cant we have something similar. Maybe we don't need one in Cobh but we need more around the area. Again, calling on the HSE is mighty if they will listen.

It truly is a weak flyer with no commitment anywhere and rather just stating what you will propose, rather than what you WILL achieve if you are voted in.

My questions if I get to ask them.

Steve's Election '07 Review - General Comments

As you maybe aware, I really don't like politics or politicians for that matter. However, I am waiting for them to call around to the house to see what they have to say. There are a few things that I would like to address and a few questions that I would like to ask them because, to be honest, what I have heard interests me little.

The removal of stamp duty while being a good idea does fuck all for me at present as I already own a house. With the prices the way they are, I cannot afford to but a bigger one even if I sell my current house. I just couldn't afford the mortgage. But they are doing little for that. Maybe regulate the house market a bit? Why is a three bed house worth circa €180k in 05 but over €300k in 07 with no improvements in schools, infrastructure or amenities near it? What has made that house gone up in price? Fuck all...more control please.

Other than that, the present election items seem to centre around who has the least dirt and who can royally fuck up the others the most. Last man/woman/4-legged beast standing wins.

Just to let you know, I live in Rushbrooke near Cobh town. The roads are shit and other than a bridge and ferry there is no way off the Island. The town really does little for itself and seems hell bent on imploding. Roads are crap and to many empty buildings.

So what I will do is note who calls to the house and what they have to say about my items. I will let you know who calls and their responses. Here is what I will ask:

1) What you are going to do for broadband/connectivity around the area? It took over 3 years to get Rushbrooke exchange enabled and where my house is I can only receive 1 from 7 wireless providers?

2) What you are going to do with the roads and infrastructure? There are a few hundred new houses open in the last 4 years yet the road is bad and access is dangerous. No new pedestrian paths, cycle paths or wider roads have been built and yet traffic, especially lorries and construction vehicles, has increased so more risk. More houses are planned yet no sign of helping with the growing traffic problems on the Island.

3) What you are going to do with public transport. In the 3 years on the island the Cobh-Cork train's timetable has not increased even with the growing number of people living there. I'm not even aware if the bus is running at all as I never see it and if it does it is very infrequent. Why are the prices always rising for a service that is plainly not? Surely this would have been thought about when the planning went through.

4) What are you going to do about the current house market? Any plans to help out more with both current owners and those trying to buy? Anything to help with the rise and rise and rise of interest rates?

5) What you are going to do about the job market? There have been so many jobs lost in Cork over the last few years yet little to replace them? Is Cork dying?

6) What can be done about unions? Why do we all have to suffer because one person decides to down tools? What happens those who call unofficial strikes and they should have not have been called? Is there accountability here? What can be done to prevent this happening again?

7) What can you do about the Civil Service? Delays are all too frequent in those departments. We all know people who work there (and I use work very loosely). There have been stories of people leaving as a snail like pace is adopted but this affects the general public? If someone messes up in the civil service why are they not fired? Why are they just moved?

Eating Out: Nutmeg Restuarant, Cork City

To be honest I can never admit to being a connoisseur of food but I do like my grub. On Saturday last myself and my good lady wife were in town and after a few pints thought it would be good to go somewhere for a nice meal. Following a recommendation from the "laminate menu guardian" we went to Nutmeg which is on French Church Street (between St. Patrick's Street and Paul Street in Cork's city centre).

The restaurant is nice, if a little impersonal. Tables were nice and service was excellent. We did feel, though, it was very open and you couldn't really have a private conversation in the place. Maybe it was just our table.

We were given lovely bread (which is organic and available to buy there) but noticeably no side plates to use. This is a novel way of cutting down on washing costs :) However the bread was very tasty.

For starters we shared baked potato skins with black pudding. There were 5 skins and what seemed like one slice of black pudding shared between said 5 skins. They were nice though and probably filling for one person (but if that person was me or very hungry then I don't think so).

For main's we both had sirloin steak with hand cut fries and pepper sauce. The steak (medium) was cooked to perfection (for me) and the sauce was lovely. The fries, while nice, were a little on the damp side if you know what I mean. Sort of, squidgy rather then "chippy". We also got some boiled potatoes and veg (carrot and cauliflower) to share. Portion's were nice.

We didn't have desert or wine so cannot comment on that.

The serving staff were very friendly and excellent. The one comment I would have is that maybe there was not enough time between courses. We were in and out within 45 mins.

Price was reasonable (between €60 and €70) for dinner.

Overall I probably would go back if we were looking for somewhere with decent food, good service and quick serving but maybe not for a nice long dinner with friends.

Broadband? What's that?

You may remember me saying a few weeks ago that we would be getting broadband at home very soon. Well that dream didnt last long.

I checked on Eircom's website today and it states that my line is not suitable for broadband. Lovely. Even though the rep that called said they tested this and it was.

We also got a letter telling us that the Universal Account Number we gave was incorrect (ED Note: The rep took down details directly from a bill AND also took the bill header with said details on it. As Damien noted on a previous blog, its always the customer's fault). I did advise the rep that we had instigated the move from Talk-Talk to Perlico a few days previous and she advised that they would sort that out. They didnt. A now Eircom said we have to wait to get the UAN from Perlico, call them and then wait another 25 days from then. This is AFTER already waiting 21 days to hear this!

Customer service? My arse.

I sent them a letter asking them to cancel the order (I will spare ye it). Truly we are lucky to have such incompetent fuckers as our national phone service.

Oh, and one other thing. They can't even get my name right. They had a copy of the bill, my name printed by both myself and the rep and they have my signature and they still had S. Boyne on the letter.

Sweet Jesus how do they stay in business.

Stranger Than Fiction

I watched this movie the other night and have to say I really enjoyed it.

I am a fan of Will Ferrell and really like his humour.

If you haven't seen it yet I recommend getting it...and also go and see Blades of Glory. The last time I laughed so much at a movie was Borat.

Fluffy things

Great comeback line to annoying interviewer

Neighbourhood cleanup....why?

Patrick Moore's views on women in BBC

Yes, its me..

I was accosted in work early Tuesday morn and accused of being a YouTube sensation.

So...yes, this is me.

Thanks Damien.

I was there!

Yes, indeed. I did get a ticket for the Liverpool - Chavski semi-final last Tuesday and what an amazing experience it was.

I had my flights and accomodation booked and was working on every possible avenue to get a ticket. When, on Thursday last I won a ticket on KopTalk. This is an excellent Livepool website and one I would strongly recommend any Liverpool fan to join.
Anywho, the match and atmosphere was amazing. I met and talked with David Pleat (who's prediction of "Liverpool in 90 mins and after that I don't know" came through). Saw Didi Hamann (the real Kaiser), Franz Beckenbauer, Mattias Sammer, Alan Hansen and Alan Smith.
The, ahem, support the Chavs got when they arrived was lovely.
We got into the stadium at about 7pm and already then the atmosphere was building. The singing started around then and literally the noise never stopped until about 20mins after the penalties had finished.
Regardless of what that twat Maureeniho thinks, we were the best side on the night and I can only remember one Chav attempt all night. The abuse for Cashley Cole, Fat Fwank and Dropdownga was a joy to behold.
And then the only thing to make the result better? Yes, the scum were kicked out by Milan. I'm not sure the final will be as exciting as 2005 but you can be sure we will try and make it a good game. Enjoy.

Are you in the wrong career?

Have you ever thought you were in the wrong career? Ever sat down and said "Fuck, what am I doing with my life?" and consider handing in your resignation to the boss? Ever take the time to see what you SHOULD be doing?

I do. All the time. I'm convinced I'm in the wrong industry but the problem is that what I should be doing, there aint really a market for it - or rather its taken up by one man..."Weird Al" Yankovic.

Yes. I have a knack of hearing a song a few times and then creating hilarious new words for said song. I usually test this out on my wife who is not only amused by my lyrics but also taken aback by the content. Which is usually very crude and MTV could only put on after South Park. I never write down these lyrics as I listen to the radio when in the shower, driving or doing something for which I cant be arsed to run and get paper to jot them down.

I can't give you a specific example of my now legendary side-splitting songs, but if this blog ever stops and you see a new parody artist in the charts you will know what happened. In the meantime I better keep on getting money for bills. And thinking of what I should be doing.

New All-Ireland Monopoly

Hasbro are creating a new version of Monopoly for Ireland which will include 22 counties. They are asking for people to vote on why their county should be included.

You can vote here.

If you are not from Ireland or are undecided, then vote for Donegal and make sure and leave Monaghan out of your selection....haigh!

Idea for new elections.

The elections in Ireland are nearly upon us and again Im not sure I will vote (to be honest its safe to say I wont vote as my vote is in Donegal as I never transferred it). Here is something that I would love to see happening but cant because of the shower that run the country (doesnt matter who they are).

1. Salaries to be made public. We have different levels of office and salary caps should be applied to each. Once you move up a level your salary goes up. And they should never, ever be allowed to vote for their own payrises. It should be based on performance and inflation the same as other peoples jobs.

2. Ministers caught doing anything bad, taking money they shouldnt or who have been tapped up. Sacked. And they only get the money they have put into their pension trusts and treated like you or I if we are sacked from our jobs. None of this golden handshake shite.

3. Why have one party run the country? We vote for each position in the government. For example, for Minister for Health we ask each party to nominate someone. Then we, as a country, vote for the best person based on their proposal for health based on the budget proposed before the election. And we do the same for each position and have a backup (second in the votes) there to assist. This way we have the best person in each position and if it doesnt work its our fault - we put them in. With this each party will only have a few positions to worry about.

4. We set an independant board set up to monitor each position listed above. One for health, education, etc.. This board is made up of the general public and they are they to police the politicians. This way we can see what they are doing and all work should be made public (within reason). Something similar to what Damien was suggesting.

5. Shoot anyone who doesnt like my policies. When I rule the world you will do what I say.
